Split your VHS recordings into scenes, automatically.

VHS Scene Detector is a free, browser-based VHS video splitter and scene-detection tool. Drop in your digitized recording and it automatically detects every scene change, then splits the tape into individual clips you can label and export — nothing to download.

Also works with camcorder, Hi8 & MiniDV footage.

Common questions

What video formats does it support?

MP4 and MOV files from any VHS capture card. Chrome or Edge required (WebCodecs API).

Does it upload my video to the cloud?

No. All scene detection runs locally in your browser. Only a handful of low-resolution frames are sent to Gemini for cut verification.

Can I try it for free?
